the Arrivals Hall to complete your Car Hire contract. Whilst driving in Gran Canaria ensure that you keep the Car Hire receipt, passport and driving licence with you at all times. Once you have collected your Car Hire and exit the Airport follow the blue signs “Sur” on to the road GC1, this will take you to San Agustin, Playa del Ingles, Maspalomas and Puerto Rico amoungst other places.

The original inhabitants of Gran Canaria based their economy on agriculture. Barley was the product mainly used in the diet of the first settlers on the island, this was toasted and mixed with ground cereal meal to make Gofio, which was eaten with wheat and beans. Their products were stored in places in caves called silos.

The natives of Gran Canaria lived in large settlements and the highest concentration of the population was centred in Gáldar, Telde and Arguineguín. Traditional lodgings in Gran Canaria were caves and another type of housing was excavated ground in a round shampe and built up with blocks of dry rock and a wooden cover.
