The most splendid of Granada’s architectural jewels is the Alhambra, which is a series of palaces and gardens built under the Nazari Dynasty in the 14th century. The Alhambra stands at the foot the Sierra Nevada, Spain’s highest mountain range, and overlooks the city of Granada below.

The hill facing the Alhambra houses the old Moorish casbah or “medina” called the Albaicin which is a labyrinth of narrow streets and whitewashed houses.

Overlooking Granada from the north is Sacromonte hill, which is famous for it`s cave dwellings and was once home to Granada’s large gypsy community. At Sacromonte it is possible to find traditional Flamenco shows.
