The Airports history started unofficially in 1929 and its final location was decided and funds gathered for construction of a small hanger and airstrip between 1935 and 1939. If you have a Car Hire during your stay in Tenerife North, La Orotava is definitely a spot to include on your driving itinerary. La Orotava is probably one of the prettiest spots on Tenerife with traditional wooden balconies, flower decked plazas and old narrow streets.

Drive your Hire Car to Guimar where the Pyramids of Guimar are located. These pyramids question whether the Guanches (the original inhabitants of the island) had a connection to America before Christopher Columbus, because they bear a strong similarity to pyramids found in Mexico, ancient Mesopotamia and Peru.

The north part of Tenerife is less commercialised than the popular southern resorts and you will, therefore, be able to explore with your Car Hire this less spoilt and interesting area.
